Satan's Favorite Fiery Darts

The Devil knows you very well. He knows your weaknesses. He knows which buttons to push. But thankfully, as a believer, you have everything you need. The Devil can not do one thing to you... unless you let him.

In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Ephesians 6:16

Here are some of his favorites...

1.  Unforgiveness - holding a grudge and being unwilling to forgive someone who has hurt you.

Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32

2. Anger - There is a righteous anger, but this is not that. Unrighteous Anger is usually personal...

And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil. Ephesians 4:26–27

But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. Colossians 3:8

3. Doubt - This was the very first dart shot by Satan... He got Eve to doubt God. He loves to use this one.

The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” Genesis 3:1

4. Pride - A desire to have all the attention... "Hey, look at me and my accomplishments!" This was Satan's first sin.

But he gives us even more grace to stand against such evil desires. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but favors the humble.”  So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:6–7

5. Unholy Living - In other words... anything that is not like Jesus Christ.

So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then.  But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.  For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:14–16

Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls. 1 Peter 2:11

6. Creating Dissension - Do you like causing friction between friends? At work? At church? At school?

Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit. Hebrews 13:17

7. Adversity - This is when tough things happen to you that you have no control over... you didn't cause it... you didn't ask for it... it just happened.

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

So which dart has your name on it?

The Reality of Spiritual Warfare

Spiritual Warfare is very real. But before you deal with the reality of Spiritual Warfare, it is essential you understand what Jesus gave you when He became your Lord and Savior. He changed everything! God has given to all believers the following and Satan tries to deceive us, lie to us, convince us to accept what is contrary to God’s truth.

Through Jesus, God gave you...

1. PEACE
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. John 14:27

2. JOY
I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow (complete)! John 15:11

3. POWER & STRENGTH
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere...” Acts 1:8

For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13

4. VICTORY
Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy...  Luke 10:19

5. HOLINESS & BLESSING
By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. 2 Peter 1:3

All of this comes with your salvation. This is your being made into the image of Christ. This sums it up. This is you being made into a new creation.

If these verses are God's truth and promise to you, then are they a reality in your life?  Are they part of your daily living?

Or are you...
  • Struggling with anxiety?
  • Worrying?
  • Having sleepless nights?
  • Easily intimidated?
  • Accepting defeat instead of walking in victory?
  • Seeking your own comfort and security?
  • Easily influenced by the values of the world?

Reality is we are in a battle. Why is Satan able to get a foothold in our thoughts and feed us discouragement? Why is he able to get us to focus on "our rights"; our sense of entitlement, our comfort and needs?

Satan’s primary objective is to rob God of His glory in your life.

The truth is, Satan has no power over your life... accept what you give him.

Compassion - WMHK - Gateway Church

What do these three ministries have in common? Simple. We are making a difference in a country called Bangladesh. Imagine living in a country that is 83% Muslim, 16% Hindu and 0.5% Christian. Imagine living with 54% unemployment. Imagine, if you were fortunate enough to have a job, making a wage of 11 cents per hour. Imagine living in a village with no running water or electricity. Imagine not knowing if you will have anything to eat tomorrow. Imagine living in utter spiritual darkness with no hope for a future. That is Bangladesh.

Compassion International is making difference in 26 different countries. Bangladesh is one of them. They have been ministering for 7 years in this country of great need. Currently over 20,000 children are in a Compassion project.

WMHK had a dream to sponsor an entire project that was new and no sponsors for the children. Compassion challenged them with a new project in northern Bangladesh. WMHK accepted the challenge and ask me to travel with them. We had the rare privilege of being with 150 children on their very first day of a brand new project. It was amazing. God stretched me beyond measure.

God challenged me to reassess how I was spending my resources. Am I just entertaining myself or am I investing in eternity? I have always heard, "you can't take it with you." Well, according to the Bible, you CAN send it ahead! For $38 a month, I can be used by the Holy Spirit to bring a young child to Jesus... to feed him one balanced meal everyday... to educate him... to clothe him... to introduce his entire family to Jesus... and possibly introduce his entire village to Jesus. What a deal! Now that is an eternal investment.

Gateway joined me in this challenge and on a single Sunday sponsored nearly half of the children in this new project. Now WMHK is seeking to sponsor the remaining children in a special emphasis February 15th and 16th.

Are you investing in eternity?

What Wall Are You Hiding Behind?

Over the years, we collect filters through which we process life. These filters determine how we respond to everyday life… both the little stuff and the really huge stuff. These filters determine how we relate to people… how we make decisions… how we think. The things we let influence us and speak into our lives make up these filters. These filters will quickly build walls in our lives.

Here are some common walls that we build around our life which are usually the opposite of what God's Word teaches.

1. A Wall of FEAR

  • Do I fail to realize that God is in control?
  • Do I want God to be in control of my life?
  • Am I afraid of what God might ask of me?

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Phil. 4:6–7

2. A Wall of DIRT

  • Have the things that I once considered filth become the source of my entertainment?
  • Does what once made me blush now make me laugh?

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Phil. 4:8

3. A Wall of ACTIVITY

  • Has church activity become a substitute for an intimate relationship with Jesus?
  • Have I filled my life with endless, meaningless activities?
  • Am I trying to earn God's love?

Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you. Phil. 4:9

4. A Wall of COMPLAINING

  • Do I think God has given me the short end of the stick?
  • Do I compare myself to others?

How I praise the Lord that you are concerned about me again. I know you have always been concerned for me, but you didn’t have the chance to help me. Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. Phil. 4:10–12

5. The Wall of DEFEAT

  • Do I believe the Bible is God's Word?
  • Am I willing to trust His promises?

For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. Phil. 4:13

So the real question is this: Are you ready to tear down some walls in your life?
